What are Hints?
Hints are short pieces of advice that tell a learner what they could say next in a roleplay conversation, and why. Rather than giving away the answer, a hint reads the conversation so far and offers a contextually relevant tip based on the roleplay's assessment criteria — sometimes including an example of what to say next.
Hints are available to learners as an optional support during the engagement. As a facilitator, you decide whether learners can access them for a given roleplay by using the "Allow the learner to ask for help?" toggle.
Where to find the Hints toggle
The toggle lives on the Roleplay Customisation form, alongside your other roleplay setup options.
- Open the roleplay you want to configure.
- Go to the Roleplay Customisation form.
- Locate the "Allow the learner to ask for help?" toggle.

This setting applies per roleplay, so you can enable Hints for some roleplays and disable it for others depending on the scenario and learner group.
Which roleplays support Hints
Hints are currently available for the following roleplay types:
- Active Listening in the Workplace
- Active Listening in Healthcare
- De-escalation
- Debating
- Building Rapport
- Professional Conversations
- Public Speaking (Q&A session)
If the toggle isn't appearing on a roleplay's Customisation form, check that the roleplay is one of the supported types listed above.
What learners see when Hints are enabled
When you turn the toggle on, learners will see a ? icon they can select during the engagement to request a hint. For more on how learners use this, see Using Hints During AI Roleplay (link to the learner-facing article once published).
